Bear Lake Journeys

(not necessarily in that order)

These posts are all about finding the inside on the outside.  If you are interested in the dynamic dance of the physical and metaphysical worlds, I offer a humble choreography of words.

On the surface, this is about backpacking to the same wilderness lakes over and over again, like binge-watching a movie you treasure.  In the wholly absorbed manner of a whirling dervish, I have danced in ecstatic circles to exactly the same tune for over 50 years.  The things I have learned by immersing myself in a monogamous intimacy of landscape over and over have changed my life.  My life has also changed the things I have learned.

The blog is organized into chapters — each representing a single backpacking trip — with meaningful interludes between them.  So far, I have made 21 separate trips to the same group of lakes in the Trinity Alps, and each one has taught me something different, because I was a different person.  Perhaps it was for the same reason that you can’t step into the same river twice.

If you are interested in opening a window to the soul, dear reader, I invite you to gaze inwardly with me as I describe what can only be called a love affair with a place.  Click here to get started!

Happy trails!
